3: Shadowcat

(Kitty Pryde)

While my number one X-Man used to be Wolverine, that title now goes to Kitty Pryde! Having originally been the youngest member of the X-Men, Kitty was only 13 years old when she gained the mutant ability to phase through solid matter and make herself and others intangible. What has made her my all-time favorite X-Man is that I find her to be the most relatable of the team, as since she was the youngest, she was unprepared for the hardships of being a mutant. Because they are rapidly thrust upon her, she was forced to quickly adapt and mature, growing from an innocent teen unsure of herself, to a strong, independent young woman who wants to help other young mutants going through the same experience that she once had. She is also intelligent, confident, kindhearted, determined, and will do whatever it takes to protect her fellow mutants. It's these qualities of her character, as well as the evolution of her being a shy teen to an strong-willed adult that have made her my all-time favorite X-Man, and my favorite stories about her are both Joss Whedon's sensational run on ASTONISHING X-MEN, and her classic six-issue limited series with Wolverine by Chris Claremont. Man do I love Kitty! She is just awesome!!!
