7: Professor Charles Xavier

The founder of the X-Men and the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters, Charles Xavier may appear to be to be the weakest of them all. In reality, this wheelchair-bound man is the world's most powerful telepath, and dreams of a day when humans and mutants can someday coexist peacefully. After having his legs crushed by the villain known as Lucifer, Xavier realized that he could not protect humanity from evil mutants on his own. As a result, he founded the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters, which acted as a school where young mutants could learn to control their special powers. Many of his students have since joined the X-Men, a group designed to bridge the gap between mutant and human relations, as well as protecting humanity from mutants who would use their power to destroy them.
