6: Wolverine
(James Howlett; Logan; Weapon X)
Probably the most recognizable and popular of the X-Men, Wolverine has quite easily become the favorite teammember of countless X-Men fans. I'm no exception to this rule as Wolverine was once my all-time favorite X-Man as well (though now he is my second favorite). But what specifically draws me to his character is not his awesome action-packed fights, his razor-sharp adamantium claws, or his mysterious past believe it or not (I actually like that we know about his full origins unlike those who would prefer to keep it a mystery). No, what I like best about Wolverine is how the theme that constantly revolves around his character is pain. Having been originally raised as a sickly child, Wolverine was forced to quickly adapt and mature after he accidently killed his father's murderer, and sprouted bone claws. He had lost all innocence, and had to grow up in a world that was harsh and bitter. A lot of his psychological pain also comes from the experiments conduted on him by Weapon X, causing him to forget much of his past before then, as well as his animalistic nature resulting in the intentional or unintentional deaths of those around him. And even though he possess a healing factor, he feels every bit of pain that accompanies him being gunshot, stabbed, and injured more times than he could count. Despite that, he still manages to endure every amount of pain he experiences, and works to make up for the sins of his past, and strive towards a brighter future with the X-Men.
