Green Goblin Strikes Back!!! (Along with new artist Stuart Immonen)
Ranking: 4 stars
Over the years I had noticed changes in Mark Bagley's artwork. As the series went further down the road the coloring of some of the inks changed and some characters became more detailed later in the series (Green Goblin, and Moon Knight for example). But when I first looked at this book I noticed that the artwork was completely different and I was quiet shocked until I learned that Mark Bagley had retired from the series and that Stuart Immonen had taken over. I wasn't too big of a fan of Stuart's artwork at first, but I soon thought that they picked a good replacement for the series' artist!
The story of this volume was very creative, because it shows how Kitty Pryde has started to move on from Peter after their breakup, and most importantly brings the Green Goblin back into Spidey's life! The Green Goblin had not been seen since the "Ultimate Six" arc, and I was starting to really miss him. But now he breaks out of the Triskelion to haunt Spider-Man and his family even more than before ... By blaming his failures on Nick Fury and Spidey, on live Television! When Spidey see's his old foe's face on the news, he quickly gets Mary Jane and his Aunt May out of the city so that Osborn won't get his hands on them! Spider-Man then goes off to face the Goblin, with the help of the new SHEILD director Carol Danvers, and his ex-girlfriend Kitty Pryde (who has recently acquired a new super-hero identity).
The relationship between Spidey and Kitty is hilarious (Kitty actually asked Peter if she should date Kong), and the final battle has a shocking ending that I cannot reveal! Bendis is always an impressive writer, and Stuart Immonen gives a new look to Spidey's world! I will always be a true fan of Ultimate Spider-Man!
