Honestly, I don't know what to say...

I got this book to join a book club at my local comic bookstore and I thought that it was an interesting interpretation of the Ultimate Captain America. I never knew about Frank Simpson, the Captain America of Vietnam, and this book introduced me to him. He was an interesting villain and was almost more than a match for the original Cap! The Story was a good one but the only thing I have against it was how it could be pretty dark at certain moments. That kinda gave me some mixed feelings about it. I have my pros and cons for this book.
Some of the scenes in the book I thought were a little to violent. Like the Korean Super-Soldier slashed up, the idea of children being used as henchmen and assassins, and American soldiers being fed to a pig, which I didn't completely understand. I thought that pigs were herbivores and only ate slop given to them by farmers, not overweight man-eating beasts that would suck the intestines out of a human corpse. Why would a pig do that, did Frank Simpson train it to do that? It was pretty gruesome and disgusting to me.
But I really liked was Captain America's faith in God. I am a devoted Christian and I supported the scenes where he was praying for help in his cell, and where he was reading the Bible to an injured Frank Simpson at the end of the story. It was the first comic I've read that had some deep religious meaning to it. Also it was by Jason Aron and Ron Garney who did a great job on Wolverine: Get Mystique together. Garneys artwork is awesome once again!
I wouldn't recommend this book to younger reader, because of the violence I mentioned, but it is definitely worth checking out if your a long time devoted fan of Cap or the Ultimate Marvel Universe!
